Department of Computer Science

We believe that becoming a Green Department is just plain good business -- for the College and for the Nation. We envision that being an institutional leader in these areas will give our college a competitive advantage in today's educational, research, and healthcare marketplaces by:

  • Finding common-sense, cost-effective approaches for conserving precious
    resources and preventing pollution; reducing waste, energy consumption, and
    our operating expenses; reusing and recycling materials, and affirmatively
    procuring environmentally-friendly products and services --thereby creating
    a positive environmental and economic impact;
  • Strengthening our attractiveness in recruiting students, top faculty, research funding, alumni support and other recipients of our services;
  • Generating financial and other resources that expand our available capital and
    our operations capacities;
  • Creating new professional opportunities and generating new jobs;

Through communication, cooperation, and innovation over time, we are confident that the Green Department (Computer Science) will champion those approaches and outcomes which advance a true respect for sustainability in all of its forms -- personal, organizational and ecological.
Pollution prevention -- we will practice, promote, and provide leadership in ecological

sustainability, including continuous improvement in pollution prevention as well as environmental and energy conservation and management. We will reorient our efforts to reduce and eliminate pollution at the source. Pollution prevention will be a priority in our various policies, programs, and practices.
